No endotonoic treatment of the infected riit canal without ED 84
Mechanical preparation of an infected root canal is insufficient. Microorganisms remain in the canal preparation and rinsing. Elimination of these germs makes temporary treatment sensible.
A pharmaceutical preparation must fulfill two conditions:
- Susstained antimicrobial efficacy against all potential germs.
- No Irritation of the periapical tissue.
„With unundiluted ED 84 a reduction of the number of bacterial cells in the infected canal by 2…3 log Levels (from 104 or 103 to 101) is already achieved after a short exposure period (60 minutes). This was shown in a thooth extraction study including four bacterial test strains.“ (Schäfer, Bößmann, Antimicrobial Effect of Camphorated Chlorxylenol (ED84) in the treatment of infected root canals. Studies have demonstrated that a drug-induced irritation of the tissues could not be observed when ED 84 is applied. (Darwisch et al. Gewebsreaktion auf temporäre Wurzelkanalfüllmittel, Endodontie 1994, I.).
Summary:
ED 84 is a disinfection Emulsion whitch contains the active ingredients chloroxylenol (10%) and camphor (15%). Although it has bacteriostatic effects when applied in a diluted solution, ED 84 should be applied undiluted. Application shoult last up to days under sterile closure. As a root canal disinficant ED 84 produces good result particularly if a high number of microbial cells are present. Accessory canals are also reached on account of the low viscosity of ED 84.

Disinfection Emulsion
For active disinfection and temporary medical fillingin the treatment of the pulp and dental root canals. In the treatment of periodontics apicalis, acuta and cronica ED 84 is applied into the root canal a Pipette and pumped up. Shoult ED 84 also penetrate into the periapical tissue while the foramen apicale is open, no damage will ensue, as ED 84 does not affect the tissues.
Composition:
100g contain: 10,3g chloroxylenol, 15,1g camphor
